A BRIEF SUMMARY OF PRIM’S HISTORY
Over 150 years ago, a humble family arrived in a small town in the north of Spain with a big dream: to help people.
Mr. Pedro Prim Fernández, father of three children and a shoemaker by profession, spent his days and nights in his workshop painstakingly creating shoes to help both young and old people with walking difficulties.
At that time, Spain was escalating the construction of its railway system and the Prim family decided to continue their adventure following railroads, until they reached a railway junction being built in the north of Spain to connect with our neighbours over the border in France. It was Alsasua.
Mr. Prim, with a small wooden cart and a mule, went around the town and the surrounding villages, offering his innovative shoes to local residents. Word soon spread of the shoemaker’s magic and Pedro opened his first orthopaedic centre: an old spa that he converted into a workshop and a hotel. There his patients and their families could rest and make use of the facilities. He helped his patients exercise by using the thermal water there and discovered that these therapeutic treatments improved the mobility in their bodies.
Pedro continued to create new pieces that helped people with mobility problems, such as special chairs or leg orthoses. He then began to register his first patents, becoming the inventor of many of the orthopaedic solutions that we know today in Spain.
His fame took him to France and beyond, and he went onto show off his great inventions all over the world.
In these 150 years, the Prim family has grown significantly, and we are now more than 600: through our products and efforts, we help to care for children, the elderly and all those who are in need, at hospitals, pharmacies, physiotherapy and orthopaedic clinics. We have also built spa centres and developed hydrotherapy, thermalism and thalassotherapy equipment, to continue benefitting from the extraordinary powers of water, as Mr. Pedro Prim did with his patients.
Today, the company reaches more than 70 countries, and the desire to improve people’s lives through innovation is the common dream all of us in great Prim family share.
