PRIM and TRAK: the alliance shaping the future of physiotherapy
- PRIM, the leading Spanish health sector company that offers specialist medical services, with an export network of 75 countries, is revolutionising the health market with the introduction of a digital physiotherapy service.
- This service has been developed by the San Sebastian-based startup TRAK, whose platform, which goes by the same name, offers professionals the possibility to prescribe and monitor therapeutic exercise protocols through an AI system that corrects the patient in real time.
- The tool has been tested at several centres across Spain and is part of several European projects such as the COVID-X programme.
- This is the latest move made by PRIM in its pursuit of diversification and modernisation as part of its commitment to improve life quality.
The pandemic and recent technological advances have led the health sector to a crossroads in terms of digitalisation and the emergence of new resources. They represent a qualitative leap in patient care and in the improvement of their overall physical conditions, well-being and quality of life, more necessary than ever before. In this sense, PRIM, a leading company in the supply of medical services, has incorporated the tele-rehabilitation tool known as Trak into its product catalogue. This digital physiotherapy app uses the camera on your mobile device, tablet or laptop to provide real time corrections during exercises via voice and text messages. Its capacity to do this comes from an artificial intelligence system that is able to read up to 20 joint key points.
Both physiotherapists and specialist doctors took part in the development of this tool and its testing was carried out across various centres in Spain, such as the University Hospital of Torrejón (Madrid), the Vinapoló University Hospital (Elche) and the Ribera Povisa Hospital (Vigo). It has also been included as part of different European wide projects such as the COVID-X programme, which aims to find technological solutions to those issues highlighted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our platform represents a valid and safe alternative to the traditional methods used in current physiotherapy. We intend to offer physiotherapists and patients a useful and quality tool that universalises rehabilitation”. From Trak, Jon Vital, CEO and co-founder of the company, states that “Physical exercise is an essential part of any rehabilitation process, but patients do not stick to their treatment. Now, thanks to TRAK, doctors can increase their monitoring of patients’ exercises in a comfortable and secure way.”
The Future of Physiotherapy
This alliance is the culmination of a series of operations that PRIM has carried out in its quest to diversify and modernise its product portfolio. This is a step forward that demonstrates the company’s continued desire to continue to grow.
PRIM, which closed the first quarter of the year by meeting all its targets, now places its trust in the startup TRAK with whom it intends to offer its customers the future of rehabilitation treatments. “The relationship between the two entities represents a firm commitment to digitalisation,” says Vital. “Establishing a trusted relationship with a company with PRIM’s background and commercial experience, with more than 152 years of history, is a huge milestone for TRAK. We look forward to continuing to grow together and to offer the best service to the industry and patients.”
According to Fernando Oliveros, CEO and Managing Director of PRIM: “The incorporation of the Trak digital physiotherapy application strengthens PRIM’s position as a leader in the physiotherapy and rehabilitation sector in Spain. This alliance is an important step to continue advancing our growth strategy in the healthcare sector, both nationally and internationally.”
